Court Orders National Assembly to Begin Impeachment Process Against Buhari

By Farouk Mohammed

The Federal High Court in Osogbo on Wednesday ordered the National Assembly to begin impeachment process against President Muhammadu Buhari.

Justice Maureen Onyetenu gave the ex parte order based on the continued killings and spending without lawmakers’ approval.

Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association, Ilesa branch, Kanmi Ajibola and a human rights activist Suleiman Adeniyi had filed the motion leading to this order.

The lawyers had written to the Senate and the House of Representatives to begin impeachment process against the President.

But the federal lawmakers refused to proceed with the request.

They, then, approached the court seeking an order to compel the National Assembly to begin the process.

Ajibola and Adeniyi also alleged that Buhari did not possess a certificate to be qualified as a President and hence should be impeached.
