NEW YORK, United States — Germany opened their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign in emphatic fashion on Sunday, thrashing debutants Curaçao 7-1 in a dominant Group E encounter.
Felix Nmecha put Germany ahead early before Curaçao briefly stunned the four-time world champions through Livano Comenencia, who scored the Caribbean nation’s first-ever World Cup goal. Germany quickly regained control, with Nico Schlotterbeck restoring the lead before Kai Havertz converted a penalty on the stroke of half-time.
Okay News reports that Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown and Deniz Undav added further goals after the break, while Havertz completed his brace late in the match as Julian Nagelsmann’s side ran riot. The result marked Germany’s biggest World Cup victory since their famous 7-1 win over Brazil in the 2014 semi-finals.
Germany extended their winning streak to 10 matches across all competitions and produced one of the most dominant displays of the tournament so far, registering 26 shots and overwhelming Curaçao throughout much of the contest.
Despite the heavy defeat, Curaçao made history through Comenencia’s goal in their first appearance at the World Cup. However, the newcomers were unable to contain Germany’s attacking quality as the European giants moved to the top of Group E with a statement victory.
