Dethroned Emir of Gaya Accepts Fate, Says Removal is ‘Allah’s Doing’

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

Aliyu Abdulkadir, the recently dethroned Emir of Gaya, has expressed acceptance of his removal, viewing the event as predestined.

On Friday, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf deposed the Emirs of Bichi, Rano, Karaye, Kano, and Gaya, reinstating Muhammad Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano.

Sanusi, originally dethroned in 2020 following a fallout with former governor Abdullahi Ganduje, has resumed his role amidst the political upheaval.

Yusuf mandated the dethroned emirs to vacate their palaces within 48 hours. While the Emirs of Bichi, Rano, Karaye, and Gaya have complied, Aminu Ado Bayero, the dethroned Emir of Kano, has not vacated his palace and is calling for justice.

In an interview with BBC Hausa, Abdulkadir conveyed his acceptance of the situation, attributing it to divine will. He stated he holds no grudge and has no plans to contest the government’s decision.

“If this happens to anyone, he will not be happy, but Allah has brought it, no matter what, there is an end to it,” Abdulkadir said.

“Allah has written it even before we were born that it will be, so we should not be angry about anything. This is Allah’s doing and we accepted it with open arms.”

Abdulkadir emphasized his belief in destiny and expressed gratitude, saying, “We are the acceptors of destiny. This is what Allah willed and this is what will be done. We have no intention of going to court. We have accepted destiny, we thank God.”
