ABUJA, Nigeria — The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has officially confirmed former Cross River State governor Donald Duke as its presidential candidate for Nigeria’s 2027 general election following the conclusion of its internal review process.
Okay News reports that the party’s National Working Committee approved Duke’s candidacy after examining the findings of its primaries appeal committee. The decision was reached during a meeting held on June 5, according to a statement issued by the PRP’s National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ishaq.
The party said the review affirmed that Duke emerged through a valid electoral process and would fly the PRP flag in the next presidential contest. The appeal committee also upheld the outcomes of four other primary elections conducted by the party.
In addition, the PRP announced that it had cleared a total of 420 candidates to contest various positions in the 2027 elections. However, the primary election conducted for the Tarauni Federal Constituency was nullified and excluded from the list of approved candidates.
Ishaq said the party remains committed to internal democracy, active participation in the electoral process, and providing what it described as credible and transformative leadership for Nigerians ahead of the next election cycle.
