WASHINGTON, United States – United States President Donald Trump signed an order to reinstate a presidential fitness award for children on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
Okay News reports that Trump authorized the return of the Presidential Fitness Test award for schools during a signing ceremony in the Oval Office. The president discussed his personal exercise habits during the event. “I work out so much, like, about one minute a day, max. If I’m lucky,” Trump said.
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. attended the event and recounted a story about his father, Robert F. Kennedy, completing a 50-mile hike. Kennedy Jr. said it would be a “breeze” for Trump to complete a similar walk, adding that “this guy walks nine miles a day on a golf course every weekend.” Trump responded, “When I’m not using the cart,” referencing his use of a golf buggy.
Golfers Gary Player and Bryson DeChambeau were present for the signing. Several school children also attended the event. The president patted one student on the arm and asked if he was a “strong person,” to which the boy replied “yes, sir.” Trump said, “You think you could take me in a fight?” and added, “I think you could.”
Trump, who turns 80 next month, was the oldest president inaugurated when he assumed office in 2025. The White House previously attributed swelling in the president’s legs to a vein issue and bruising on his hands to aspirin consumption. Trump has publicly compared his physical abilities to those of his predecessor, Joe Biden, who withdrew from the 2024 election.
