DSS Release Ekiti Lawmaker, Rush Him to Hospital

The Department of State Services on Tuesday evening released Ekiti Lawmaker, Afolabi Akanni, who has been in detention at their facilities since March 4, Vanguard reports.

Akanni, whose continued detention without trial by the DSS caused a stir last week following reports that he was dead, has now been rushed to a private hospital in Abuja for urgent medical attention.

The Lawmaker representing Efon constituency was very weak and could barely speak when visited at the hospital as he kept repeating; “I am not well. I am sick. I am sick,” when reporters tried to speak with him.

He said he was treated for malaria at the DSS detention facility after he collapsed twice, and further suggested that his release may not be unconnected with his deteriorating health, although he was never told why he was arrested.
