The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have agreed to deepen their cooperation in combating money laundering, smuggling, and related economic crimes across the country.

The agreement was reached during a courtesy visit by the new Customs Area Controller of the Oyo and Osun Area Command, Comptroller G. I. Aliyu, to the Acting Director of the EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Office, Assistant Commander Hauwa Ringim.

In a statement by EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the meeting was described as part of ongoing efforts to enhance inter-agency collaboration in intelligence sharing and enforcement.

Aliyu said the NCS and EFCC share common objectives in curbing illicit financial flows, trade-based money laundering, and other economic offences undermining Nigeria’s growth. He emphasized that both agencies must sustain their synergy through consistent intelligence exchange and joint operations.

“The synergy between the NCS and the EFCC is indispensable. Our mandates intersect in areas such as curbing illicit trade, blocking financial leakages, and enforcing fiscal policies. Continuous collaboration will help strengthen national security and economic stability,” he stated.

He commended the leadership of EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, for progress in asset recovery, enforcement, and public enlightenment, describing the agency’s work as essential to promoting accountability in public service.

In her remarks, Ringim expressed readiness to deepen cooperation through joint task forces and coordinated investigations, adding that the partnership would help secure Nigeria’s financial systems and boost revenue protection.

She noted that sustained collaboration between the EFCC and NCS would advance national economic goals and reduce the risks associated with financial crimes and illegal trade.
