Former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Maurice Iwu, has been declared WANTED by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with a N23.29 billion election bribery scandal.

The N23.29 billion slush fund was allegedly used to bribe some INEC officials with a mandate of altering the results of the election in which President Muhammadu Buhari, the then candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) beat then incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

Iwu, who whose tenure as INEC chairman oversaw what has been described as the worst election in the history of Nigeria, was the one who allegedly marshaled strategies on how the bribery could be perfected.

It was learnt that for doing the job, the ex-INEC chief got a handsome reward.

The EFCC has reportedly been on his trail in the last two weeks but he has managed to evade arrest.

An EFCC source said: “Our operatives are still looking for him. We have put other security agencies on the alert.

“He is wanted in connection with the N23.29 poll bribery perpetrated by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.”
