EFCC Quashes Hacking Rumors, Explains Temporary X Account Glitch

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed claims circulating on social media that its official X (formerly Twitter) account was taken over by hackers.

The anti-graft agency issued a statement on Thursday clarifying that its account had not been compromised, despite rumors suggesting otherwise.

The EFCC acknowledged that its X handle did experience a technical issue while the agency was in the process of updating some information on the platform.

However, the Commission emphasized that this was a temporary glitch and not the result of any hacking activity.

The statement reads partly: “Contrary to such unfounded claims, the Commission’s official X account has not been compromised in any way. While attempting to update certain information on the Commission’s biography on the app, a technical glitch occurred.”
