The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered ₦104.1 million in unremitted taxes from Kiara Rice Mills Limited and handed the funds over to the Niger State Government.
The recovery, announced at the EFCC’s Ilorin Zonal Directorate, followed an investigation into tax liabilities accumulated between 2021 and 2024 by the rice processing company located in Kpatsuwa Village, Mokwa LGA.
According to the EFCC, intelligence received in February 2025 revealed that Kiara Rice Mills had failed to remit its full tax obligations despite operating profitably. The Foreign Exchange Malpractice Section confirmed the infractions, leading to the full recovery of the outstanding liabilities.
Representing EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, Ilorin Zonal Director CE Ansalem Ozioko emphasised the Commission’s mandate: “The function of the EFCC is to prevent, investigate, and prosecute economic and financial crimes, recover what was stolen, and return it to the rightful owners.” He urged Niger State to continue partnering with the Commission and report any acts that undermine integrity.
Receiving the funds, Alhaji Aminu Bawa, Group Head of Tax Operations at the Niger State Internal Revenue Service, commended the EFCC’s diligence and assured that the recovered money would be credited into the state’s account for development projects. “This development will have a direct and positive impact on the lives of our people,” he said.
The recovery adds to the EFCC’s broader enforcement record. Between October 2023 and September 2025, the agency logged over 19,000 petitions, conducted 29,240 investigations, filed 10,525 cases in court, and secured 7,503 convictions.
It recovered ₦566.3 billion, $411.5 million, £71,306, €182,877, and 1,502 non-monetary assets—including 753 duplexes in Abuja and Nok University in Kaduna, now operating as the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.
Part of these funds has been deployed into public programmes such as the Students Loan Scheme and Consumer Credit Scheme, with ₦100 billion committed so far.
The EFCC also highlighted ongoing corruption cases involving former governors and ministers, arrests of 792 suspects linked to investment and cryptocurrency fraud in Lagos, and the creation of a Task Force on Naira Abuse and Dollarisation of the Economy.
