Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has traced a total of 41 high-value properties to Abubakar Malami, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, with the combined worth estimated at more than ₦212 billion. The assets are reportedly spread across Kebbi State, Kano State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

According to findings obtained by TheCable, the properties include hotels, private residences, large parcels of land, schools, factories, farms, media outfits and a printing press. Kebbi State accounts for the bulk of the assets, with an estimated value exceeding ₦162 billion, followed by Abuja at about ₦34.6 billion and Kano at over ₦16 billion. Many of the properties are linked to businesses and institutions operating under the Rayhaan and Azbir brands.

In addition to tracing the assets, the federal government has filed a 16-count charge against Malami and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, accusing them of money laundering under provisions of Nigeria’s Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act.

The charges mark an escalation in investigations surrounding the former justice minister, who served under the previous administration, as authorities move to establish the source and legality of the vast portfolio of properties allegedly connected to him.
