El-Rufai Sues Kaduna Assembly Over ₦432bn Probe Report

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has taken legal action against the Kaduna State House of Assembly, challenging the report of the Assembly’s committee that alleged his administration mismanaged ₦432 billion and left the state with huge debt liabilities.

El-Rufai filed a fundamental rights suit at the Federal High Court in Kaduna, arguing that the Assembly did not give him a fair hearing and that the report was null and void. He asked the court to declare the report invalid and sought relief for the alleged violation of his rights.

The former governor’s lawyer, Abdulhakeem Mustapha (SAN), filed the suit on his behalf, joined by the Kaduna State House of Assembly and the state Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice as respondents.

The Assembly’s ad hoc committee had submitted its report earlier in June, accusing El-Rufai’s administration of corruption and recommending his prosecution. El-Rufai has dismissed the claims as “scandalous” and “politically motivated,” affirming the integrity of his government and legacy.

The court case is ongoing, with El-Rufai seeking justice and a declaration of the report’s invalidity.
