Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has praised his team’s performance following their 2-0 victory over the Amavubi of Rwanda, a win that reignited Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking after the game at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Friday night, Chelle described the match as difficult, but commended his players for their resilience and focus.

“It was a difficult game; Rwanda have a great team. I am proud of my players’ performance. We worked a lot within the few days,” Chelle said.

The win was significant for Nigeria as it marked their first-ever victory on Rwandan soil.

Victor Osimhen, the Galatasaray forward, was the star of the night, scoring both goals in the first half to seal the win for the three-time African champions.

Chelle revealed that the team only had two full training sessions ahead of the match but credited his players for maintaining possession and composure in the second half.

“We had just two full training sessions. We kept the ball well in the second half—good performance from my guys,” Chelle added.

With the victory, the Super Eagles have moved to fourth position in Group C, with six points from five games, as they continue their push for a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
