Liverpool, ENGLAND – Everton Football Club has confirmed the arrest of a supporter following reports of racist abuse directed at a Manchester City player during Monday night’s 3-3 draw at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The incident, which occurred on May 4, 2026, saw a 71-year-old man taken into custody by Merseyside Police on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence.
The arrest was made possible by the “swift response” of fellow supporters and stewards who reported the behavior in real-time.
Okay News reports that the suspect has since been released on bail with strict conditions, including a “exclusion zone” mandate preventing him from approaching any designated sports stadium within a one-mile radius before, during, or after matches.
Everton reasserted their zero-tolerance approach, stating that “racism and discrimination in all forms are completely unacceptable” and have no place in the sport or society.
