KANO STATE, Nigeria: Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, congratulated Murtala Garo on his swearing-in as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
Okay News reports that Tinubu commended Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf for the appointment, according to a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The swearing-in followed the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, which created a vacancy in the state administration.
“The President urged all stakeholders to unite behind the governor and his deputy, providing them with full support and cooperation,” Onanuga said.
“The President urged the new deputy governor to work assiduously alongside the governor to provide the leadership needed to accelerate the state’s development,” Onanuga said.
Garo, 48, previously served as the Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. Garo was also the All Progressives Congress governorship running mate in the 2023 general election.
