Manchester, ENGLAND – Manchester City has released a club statement following two separate incidents of racist abuse targeting Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guéhi during and after the 3-3 draw against Everton on Monday night. The club expressed its “strong condemnation” of the vitriol, emphasizing that such behavior has no place in the sport.
The first incident occurred at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, where Bournemouth loanee Antoine Semenyo was subjected to racist slurs from the stands. Manchester City officials confirmed they are working closely with Everton and local authorities, noting that “swift action” has already been taken to identify the individual responsible.
Okay News reports that the suspect was apprehended shortly after the final whistle, following reports from nearby spectators and stadium security footage.
The club also revealed that defender Marc Guéhi was targeted by a series of “vile racist social media posts” late Monday night. The abuse appeared to escalate following Guéhi’s underhit passback, which led to Everton’s opening goal.
