MANCHESTER, England – Manchester United are set to begin formal negotiations with Michael Carrick to appoint him as the club’s permanent head coach following a highly successful interim spell.
Okay News reports that the United hierarchy has been deeply impressed by Carrick’s performance since he took temporary charge. In just 15 games, the former midfielder has secured 10 victories and guaranteed Champions League qualification for next season—a feat that is expected to provide a £100 million boost to the club’s revenue.
While the club reportedly explored other world-class candidates, including Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann, Carrick has emerged as the frontrunner due to his strong relationship with the playing squad and his inherent understanding of the club’s heritage. Key players, including Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo, have publicly backed the 44-year-old, with Mainoo recently stating that the players “want to die for him” on the pitch.
Formal discussions are expected to take place in the coming days, with the club aiming to reach an agreement before their final Premier League fixture against Brighton on May 24. Club legend Gary Neville noted that while Carrick has brought much-needed stability, the scrutiny of a full season involving Champions League football will be a significant step up. Nonetheless, with the “Manchester United man” at the helm, the Old Trafford hierarchy appears ready to move away from a rigorous external search in favor of internal continuity.
