NAIROBI, Kenya – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially approved Nigeria’s bid to host the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the prestigious CAF Awards Ceremony later this year.
Okay News reports that the President announced the approval on Tuesday during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya. The decision followed a high-level meeting with CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, which included Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau.
The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled to take place in October 2026, bringing together the presidents of CAF’s 54 Member Associations and senior continental football officials. The CAF Awards, a highlight of the African sporting calendar that celebrates the continent’s best players and coaches, will also be hosted in Nigeria, marking a significant return of the “glitz and glamour” event to the country.
The meeting was also attended by the Special Adviser to the CAF President and former NFF boss, Amaju Pinnick, as well as CAF Acting General Secretary, Samson Adamu. Football analysts view this development as a strategic win for Nigeria’s sports diplomacy, positioning the country as a central hub for African football administration and talent celebration under the current administration.
