Plateau Governor Mutfwang Bans Night Grazing and Mining After Plateau Attacks

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

JOS, Nigeria – In a decisive response to recent waves of violence, Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has announced an immediate ban on night mining, night grazing, and underage grazing across the state.

Okay News reports that the Governor issued these directives on Tuesday during a high-level sympathy visit to the Nding community in Barkin Ladi and Ngbrazongo village in Bassa Local Government Area. The visits follow brutal attacks that claimed several lives and left numerous families displaced. Accompanied by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, the Governor met with survivors and widows, vowing that the affected communities “will not go down.”

During a strategic security meeting at Gwol Motel, which brought together religious, traditional, and youth leaders from various ethnic divides, Mutfwang mandated that all mining activities must conclude by 5:00 PM daily. He emphasized that night grazing and the use of children for herding have been major catalysts for conflict and security breaches, urging parents and livestock owners to take full responsibility for cattle management.

The Governor further warned that any security personnel found complicit in the attacks would face investigation and prosecution. Minister Doro added that the Federal Government is mobilizing humanitarian interventions to support recovery efforts in the ravaged areas. As the planting season approaches, Mutfwang assured farmers that the government would secure their lands and provide subsidized fertilizers to ensure food security and economic stability.

While appealing to the media to maintain a positive narrative of the state as the “Home of Peace and Tourism,” the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to strengthen the security architecture. He directed security agencies to intensify their manhunt for the perpetrators, insisting that those who inflict pain on Plateau citizens will find no peace under his watch.
