Kidnappers Kill Jigawa Governorship Aspirant Abba Anas After Ransom Payment

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

KADUNA, Nigeria – Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a former member of the House of Representatives and Jigawa State governorship aspirant, Hon. Abba Anas Adamu Laushi. Our correspondent gathered that the kidnapping incident happened along the Kaduna-Abuja highway.

Okay News reports that the late politician was traveling to Abuja on Friday to purchase his nomination form for the Jigawa governorship race under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) when he was intercepted and abducted alongside another individual. The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of ₦75 million for their release.

While the second victim managed to escape from the kidnappers’ den, Hon. Abba Anas was murdered by his captors even after a ransom was paid by his family. His remains are currently being transported to Kano for funeral rites. The brutal killing of the former lawmaker has sparked fresh concerns regarding the safety of commuters on the strategic expressway, which has seen a resurgence of banditry and abduction cases in recent weeks.

Hon. Abba Anas was a veteran politician who represented the Birniwa, Guri, and Kirikasamma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 2007 and 2011. Before his untimely death, he was actively mobilizing support for his gubernatorial ambition, promising a new direction for Jigawa State under the ADC platform. Citizens and political associates have taken to social media to mourn his passing, calling on the federal government to take more decisive action against the escalating insecurity in the region.
