Gov Namadi Leads Condolences at Funeral of Slain Jigawa Lawmaker Abba Anas

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

KANO, Nigeria – Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, on Tuesday joined hundreds of mourners in Kano for the funeral prayer of Hon. Abba Anas Adamu, the former federal lawmaker who was brutally murdered by kidnappers along the Kaduna–Abuja highway.

Okay News reports that Governor Namadi described the death of the former representative as a “painful loss” to both Jigawa State and the nation. He praised the deceased as a committed public servant who distinguished himself as the Chairman of Guri Local Government, a state commissioner, a member of the House of Representatives, and a respected academic. “Abba will be remembered for his humility, commitment to democracy, and his sincere love for his people’s welfare,” the Governor remarked during the solemn gathering.

The late Hon. Abba Anas, who represented the Birniwa, Guri, and Kirikasamma Federal Constituency between 2007 and 2011, met his tragic end while traveling to Abuja to purchase a nomination form for the Jigawa governorship race under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Despite his family paying a reported ₦75 million ransom, his captors murdered him, sparking widespread outrage and renewed calls for the federal government to address the deteriorating security situation on the nation’s strategic expressways.

On behalf of the government and people of Jigawa State, Governor Namadi extended deep condolences to the family and political associates of the late politician, praying for Allah to grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus. The funeral marks a somber moment for the state’s political landscape, as many remember the victim as a veteran leader who was actively mobilizing for a “new direction” for his home state before his life was cut short by bandits.
