Abuja, NIGERIA — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a sharp rebuttal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, warning him that his real battle in the 2027 election will be against millions of Nigerians facing unprecedented hardship rather than opposition parties.
Okay News gathered that the statement, released on Friday, April 17, 2026, by National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, was a reaction to the President’s recent remarks mocking the opposition’s activities. The ADC described the President’s comments as “unpresidential” and accused him of being disconnected from the reality of food inflation, rising debt, and mass poverty.
The party criticized the President for prioritizing political mockery while reports of children being abducted from examination centers circulated. “What Nigerians saw was not the confidence of a leader in control. It was the anxiety of a President increasingly disconnected from the reality of hardship,” the statement read. The ADC also debunked claims that their convention was held on the street, noting that the administration has consistently denied opposition parties access to public venues like Eagle Square.
Furthermore, the ADC slammed the President’s recent attempts to align himself with supporters of former President Muhammadu Buhari, calling the move “hypocritical” after years of blaming the previous administration for his government’s failures. The party maintained that the administration has weakened democratic institutions and reduced the legislature to an extension of the executive, urging the President to focus on security and the economy rather than “political theatre.”
