Femi Otedola, the former Chairman of Geregu Power PLC and current Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria Holdings, has paid a visit to the founder of Oriental Energy Resources, Alhaji Dr. Muhammadu Indimi.
The meeting, which took place on Friday, brought together two of Nigeria’s most prominent business titans to discuss legacy and entrepreneurship.
Sharing details of the visit, Otedola described Indimi as a man he has “long admired” and labeled him a true “African icon.”
Okay News reports that Otedola praised the 78-year-old billionaire for being “astute, humble, and one of the most honest businessmen” on the continent. The visit highlights the deep respect between the elder statesman of the oil sector and the younger generation of Nigerian industrialist leaders.
Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, a Maiduguri native, is a legendary figure in the Nigerian energy sector. After starting his journey in 1963 with a £100 loan to trade animal hides, he expanded into textiles before establishing Oriental Energy Resources (OER) in 1990. His firm remains a leading privately-held oil exploration company in Nigeria, though recent economic shifts and the floating of the Naira have impacted the valuation of such indigenous energy assets.
Beyond his role at Oriental Energy, Indimi has been a foundational board member for institutions like Jaiz Bank, the nation’s first non-interest bank. Otedola’s tribute concluded with a wish for Indimi’s “legacy to continue to inspire generations,” underscoring the importance of mentorship and character in the African business landscape.
