FG Vows to Restore Power in Sokoto’s 8 LGAs After 10-Year Blackout

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The federal government has promised to restore electricity in eight local government areas in Sokoto State that have been without power for over a decade.

This commitment comes after Governor Ahmed Aliyu raised the issue during a recent visit from the Minister of Power, Adelabu Adebayo.

A delegation from the Ministry of Power was sent to access the affected areas and determine the best course of action to reinstate electricity supply.

During the assessment exercise, Mustafa Baba Umarah, Director of Distribution at the Federal Ministry of Power, stated that the team will thoroughly examine the causes of the blackout and report back for necessary action.

Sanusi Dan Fulani, Sokoto State’s Commissioner for Energy, emphasized that restoring electricity in these areas aligns with Governor Aliyu’s administration’s efforts to stimulate economic activities, particularly in rural areas.

The eight local government areas set to be reconnected to the national grid are Isa, Sabon Birni, Goronyo, Wurno, Rabah, Gada, Illela, and Gwadabawa.

Commissioner Dan Fulani highlighted the significance of electricity supply for societal development, especially in the eastern zone of the state, known as the food basket. He appealed for support from the benefiting communities to ensure the success of the restoration project.
