ABUJA, NIGERIA – Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
Video footage released online on Sunday showed the registration process, in which Okay News reports that Kwankwaso received his membership card before Obi accepted his.
Before receiving the cards, the two politicians held a closed-door meeting with leaders of the party at the residence of the National Leader and former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson. The meeting took place in the Guzape district of the capital city.
The politicians arrived at the residence at 5:18 p.m. WAT, accompanied by supporters operating under the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement. Members of the crowd chanted “O-K is okay” as the men entered the premises.
During the event, Kwankwaso wore a white babanriga with a red-and-white Kwankwasiyya cap, and Obi wore an all-black kaftan with a matching cap.
The entry into the party follows a prior stakeholders’ meeting where the Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Buba Galadima, stated that two politicians would unveil a new political platform.
