Fubara In Closed-Door Meeting With Tinubu In Aso Rock

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Thursday, held a closed-door meetijh with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Fubara, who arrived at the Villa around 5.35 pm, left over an hour later. He refused to disclose the purpose of his visit to journalists.

When pressed for comments, the governor simply said it was a private visit. Thursday’s meeting came weeks after the governor met the President alongside his estranged political godfather and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Although the agenda of his visit was not public at the time of filing this report, it may not be unconnected with the political crisis between the governor and the FCT Minister.

It can be recalled that Tinubu had on December 18, 2023 intervened in the political crisis between the governor and the FCT minister.

According to an eight-point resolution signed at the end of the meeting, the President directed that all matters instituted in the courts by Fubara and his team regarding the political crisis in the state be withdrawn immediately.

Those who signed the resolution included Fubara; Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Ordu; the FCT Minister, Wike; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Speaker, Rivers State Assembly, Martin Amaewhule; PDP Chairman, Rivers State, Aaron Chukwuemeka and APC Chairman, Rivers State, Tony Okocha. According to the directive, Fubara was mandated to re-present the 2024 Appropriation Bill he had earlier presented to the four-member state House of Assembly to a full House.
