By Adamu Abubakar Isa

KANO, KANO STATE, NIGERIA – Nasiru Gawuna has resigned as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, in a move that signals a significant political realignment ahead of upcoming developments in Kano State.

Gawuna, who was the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Kano, confirmed that his resignation takes immediate effect. He stated that the decision was made in compliance with directives issued by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, requiring political appointees to step down in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.

Okay News reports that the resignation is coming amid strong indications that Gawuna is preparing to defect politically, with sources suggesting alignment with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. He is expected to formally announce his move to the African Democratic Congress.

In his resignation letter, Gawuna expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as both an honour and a privilege. He also assured stakeholders of a smooth transition, pledging to hand over responsibilities in accordance with established procedures.

The development adds to the wave of political realignments ahead of future elections, with analysts noting that Gawuna’s next move could have a notable impact on Kano’s evolving political landscape.
