Gov. Nasir El-Rufai Loses Foster Father

The governor of Kaduna state, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has announced the death of his foster father, renowned educationist and former permanent secretary of Federal Ministry of Education, Malam Yahaya Hamza.

El-Rufai’s spokesperson, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this in a terse statement issued in Kaduna on Tuesday night.

Malam Hamza died in Kaduna after a brief illness. Born in 1935, he  had a distinguished career in public service. Among the positions he held was office of Secretary to the Kaduna State Government. That came after a long and successful service in the education sector. He was also chairman of the council of the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
El-Rufai said he “will miss the wisdom and counsel of this great man who became a father to me and guided my steps with tender firmness.” The governor prayed Allah to grant him aljanah firdaus, and to grant the family fortitude.
Malam Yahaya Hamza is survived by his wives, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The late educationist will be buried in Kaduna at 10am on Wednesday, 26 August 2015.
