Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has announced that it will no longer allow customers to use their naira Mastercards for international online and point-of-sale (POS) transactions starting on December 31, 2022.

In an email sent to customers on Thursday, the bank stated that customers can still use their GTBank dollar cards for all international spending needs.

The GTBank dollar card allows for a daily maximum withdrawal limit of $1,000 (or the equivalent amount in the local currency of the transaction) at ATMs.

The change, which will take effect at the end of the year, will impact GTBank customers who frequently make international purchases or travel abroad and rely on their naira Mastercards for such transactions.

“We write to inform you that you will no longer be able to use your naira Mastercard for international online and POS transactions effective 31st December 2022,” the email reads.

“Kindly note that you can use your GTBank dollar card for all your international spending requirements.”
