OGBOMOSO, Nigeria: Armed attackers invaded the Nigeria Immigration Service Passport Office in Ogbomoso on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, stealing a rifle and other valuables after assaulting two officers on night duty.
Okay News reports that the Oyo State Police Command launched a comprehensive investigation into the facility invasion on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
Olayinka Ayanlade, the Police Public Relations Officer for Oyo State, issued a statement detailing that the incident began at approximately 8:45 pm WAT. Ayanlade said about five assailants accessed the premises by scaling the rear perimeter fence bordering bushland.
The attackers assaulted the two officers with sticks and dangerous weapons before stealing a G3 rifle, attached ammunition, a mobile phone, a generating set, and a motorcycle battery. The injured officers received medical attention and are in stable condition.
An unnamed source stated the attack happened around 10:00 pm WAT near an NNPC filling station. The source said, “The assailants stormed the facility while commercial activities were still ongoing at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market.”
The source further stated the status of the stolen items at that hour. “During the attack, officers on duty were reportedly overpowered and dispossessed of their firearms. The exact number of weapons taken could not be immediately confirmed,” the source said.
Ayanlade said immediate reinforcement from the Command Monitoring Unit and surveillance teams deployed to the scene upon receiving the distress report. Tactical teams are searching adjoining bushes and escape routes to apprehend the suspects and recover the stolen items.
Olugbemiga Abimbola, the Commissioner of Police for Oyo State, directed operational units to deploy resources for the arrest of the perpetrators. The police and the State Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service jointly constituted a collaborative task team to coordinate the ongoing investigation.
