Gunmen Kill Teacher, Abduct Pupils at Oyo State Schools

OYO STATE, NIGERIA: Gunmen attacked LA School and Community Grammar School in the Ahoro-Esinele community of Oyo State on Friday morning, killing one teacher and abducting an unconfirmed number of pupils.

Okay News reports that the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, confirmed the attack and the deployment of security personnel. “This senseless attack has thrown the entire education family in Oyo State into grief. Our hearts are with the affected parents, teachers, pupils, and the entire Ahoro-Esinele community,” Adeniran said.

The board directed the immediate evacuation and closure of all primary schools in the surrounding areas of Surulere, Oyo East, Oriire, and Olorunsogo. “This precautionary measure has become necessary to prevent any further attacks and to allow security agencies to completely stabilise the affected areas,” Adeniran said.

Security forces, coordinated by the Commissioner of Police, are conducting search operations to locate the missing pupils. “As we speak, security agencies are still combing the affected communities to establish the full details of the incident and ensure the safe rescue of every abducted child,” Adeniran said.

A specialized unit is currently operating in the region to locate the attackers. “A tactical response team has been deployed, while intelligence gathering and coordinated security operations are ongoing to secure the immediate rescue of the abducted pupils and restore calm to the community,” Adeniran said.

Officials requested that residents avoid spreading unconfirmed details regarding the incident. “We urge members of the public to cooperate with security agencies, remain vigilant, and avoid circulating unverified reports capable of causing further panic and confusion,” Adeniran said.
