NIGERIA — Nigeria‘s Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops killed two suspected Lakurawa Terrorist Group members and recovered 62 livestock during operations in Sokoto and Katsina states on May 15, 2026.
Nigeria’s Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, issued a statement on Friday confirming the military actions were part of ongoing offensives in the North-West.
Okay News reports that Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba said soldiers responded to a distress call regarding an attempt by the Lakurawa Terrorist Group to set fire to a Nigerian Immigration Service facility at Ruwa Wiri village in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The troops engaged the attackers in a gun duel, killing two terrorists while others fled. Following the encounter, the military recovered two AK-47 rifles, rounds of ammunition, and one motorcycle during a search of the area.
In a separate operation in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, a fighting patrol intercepted terrorists moving with herds at the Danya Bakwai settlement. The terrorists abandoned 62 rustled livestock after coming under military attack.
“Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to eradicating terrorism and banditry in the region,” Olaniyi Osoba said.
The military handed the recovered livestock to their owners at the palace of the Daddara District Head in Jibia.
