Gunmen Kill 13 Residents in Nigeria’s Plateau State

JOS, Nigeria – Gunmen killed at least 13 people and injured several others during an attack on the Ngbra Zongo community in Plateau State early Friday, May 8, 2026.

Okay News reports that the Secretary General of the Irigwe Development Association, Danjuma Auta, confirmed the incident to journalists in Jos.

Community member Philip Alanga stated the attackers entered the area at approximately 12 a.m. WAT and assaulted residents with machetes and firearms. “They came into the community around midnight and started shooting and hacking people to death. They moved from one house to another, attacking innocent people,” Alanga said.

Resident Chigoji Rocku stated that three of the individuals killed during the attack were pregnant women. Alanga added that families fled into nearby bushes to escape while multiple people sustained injuries.

Auta requested that security agencies intensify operations to track down the perpetrators and protect rural communities within the Bassa Local Government Area.

Efforts to contact the spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo, for comment were unsuccessful.
