Nigeria Police Chief Demands Community Partnership

Abuja, Nigeria: Nigeria‘s Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, called for stronger public collaboration during the 42nd anniversary celebration of the Police Community Relations Committee on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

Okay News reports that the police chief, represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Logistics and Supply, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, delivered a statement on national security. He said, “Security is not the responsibility of the police alone. It is a shared duty, one that thrives when citizens and law enforcement work hand in hand.”

Disu noted that the Nigeria Police Force relies on community involvement to execute its operational models. He said, “The PCRC must continue to evolve, embracing new ideas, new technologies and new partnerships that reflect the realities of modern policing.”

The National Chairman of the PCRC, Alhaji Mogaji Olaniyan, announced that the organisation has expanded to the United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa, Ireland, Qatar, the United States, and Saudi Arabia. Olaniyan stated that over 6,000 police officers received special welfare packages during the previous Christmas and Ramadan celebrations.

The anniversary programme included a ceremony where junior officers from different commands received honours for their service. The committee was established in 1984 to foster cooperation between law enforcement and the public at the grassroots level.
