Heavy Rainfall Alert: FG Issues 3-Day Warning for 6 States

The Federal Government, citing a forecast from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), has alerted residents of six states to expect heavy rainfall over the next three days, starting today, Wednesday, April 9th, and continuing through Friday, April 11th, 2025.

NiMet’s weather bulletin, released on Tuesday, identified Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Edo, Delta, and Ogun as the states most likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall. The agency also cautioned about the potential for flash floods in these areas, as well as strong winds that could endanger lives and property.

Meanwhile, other states including Lagos, Ondo, Ekiti, Abia, Delta, and Imo are predicted to have light to moderate rainfall during the same period, while some parts of the country will see only very light showers or remain dry.

NiMet urged the public in the affected areas to exercise caution, advising against driving through flowing water and highlighting the risks of slippery roads and reduced visibility. Residents were also warned about the potential for wind damage to weak structures, trees, and power lines, and advised to unplug electrical appliances before the onset of the rains.
