Ibadan Varsity Students Protest Fee Hike and Power Rationing

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Students of the University of Ibadan (UI) have staged a protest against the institution’s management over issues including a recent fee hike and power rationing. The demonstration, which began on Tuesday evening, continued on Wednesday, with students barricading the main entrance of the university and preventing vehicles from entering.

Protesters carried placards and gathered at the university gate, while another group converged on the Trenchard Hall premises, chanting songs to express their grievances. The students are demanding a reversal of the fee hike and a stable electricity supply.

The protest is a response to the management’s decision to increase fees and ration electricity supply, which has caused hardship for the students. The university authorities have yet to comment on the situation. The protest is ongoing, with students vowing to continue their demonstration until their demands are met.
