The AGF, Mr Abubakar Malami SAN, had on Monday issued the query following the revelations contained in a report of the State Security Service on which the Nigerian Senate relied to reject Magu’s nomination as substantive chairman of the EFCC.

The Senate was initially reluctant to give reasons for its rejection of Magu’s nomination but it was compelled to do so after much public pressure.

President Muhammadu Buhari thereafter, ordered the AGF to probe all federal government officials accused of corruption.

Corruption allegations against Magu included receiving questionable gifts of up to N40 million paid as rent by one Mr Umar Mohammed who was under investigation, as well as owning houses that were presumably beyond his means.

The acting EFCC chairman was given 48 hours to reply to the query from the AGF, dated December 19. The content of Magu’s reply to the query is however yet to be made public, PUNCH Reports.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Babachir Lawal, is also believed to be a target of the probe ordered by the President. It is however yet unclear if the AGF has taken any action with respect to the allegations against Lawal.
