Abuja, Nigeria – The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has officially decorated 30 recently promoted senior officers, including 13 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and 17 Commissioners of Police (CPs), in a ceremony held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Okay News reports that the decoration ceremony on Monday follows the recent elevation of 84 senior officers across the Nigeria Police Force.
During his address at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, IGP Disu described the promotions as a formal recognition of merit, discipline, and proven capacity. He explicitly charged the newly decorated leadership to lead by example, maintaining a strict policy of zero tolerance for indiscipline, corruption, or dereliction of duty within their respective commands.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to people-oriented policing, the IGP emphasized that respect for human rights and active community engagement remain non-negotiable operational principles. He also announced that the newly promoted AIGs will commence a mandatory Strategic Leadership Retreat on Tuesday.
The retreat, organized in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is designed to deepen transformational leadership standards and modern policing ethics among the Force’s senior ranks. The high-profile event was attended by several dignitaries, including former First Lady Patience Jonathan, former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, and retired IGP Sunday Ehindero.
