Impeachment: Edo Chief Judge Forms Panel to Probe Deputy Governor’s Allegations

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The Chief Judge of Edo State, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, has established a seven-member panel to investigate allegations against Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu.

The panel, headed by Justice S.A. Omonua (rtd.), was constituted in accordance with Section 188 (5) of the 1999 Constitution.

The move follows the issuance of an impeachment notice by the Edo House of Assembly on March 6, 2024, prompting lawmakers to direct the CJ to form the panel.

Shaibu sought a court injunction to halt the process, but the Federal High Court declined, scheduling further hearing for April 15, 2024.
