The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has refuted circulating rumors suggesting an increase in the 2024 registration fee, affirming that the cost of obtaining the UTME application forms remains steady at N3,500.
Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Board’s Public Communication Advisor, issued a statement in Abuja to dispel the rumour, emphasizing that the claims of an impending fee hike were entirely false.
“The Board wishes to assure the general public that the cost of obtaining JAMB’s UTME application documents remains at N3,500,” stated Benjamin.
Benjamin highlighted the Board’s proactive measures aimed at ensuring affordability for candidates, mentioning the deliberate decision to provide the Use of English reading text free of charge through a QR code.
This initiative was introduced to mitigate the impact of increased production costs, with Benjamin affirming that candidates would access the reading text through various channels, including their profiles, email addresses, notification slips, and the Board’s website.
Addressing the perception of fee increments, Benjamin clarified that the consolidation of fees payable by candidates at Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers was part of the Board’s cashless policy. He clarified that the fees (N700 for registration, N1,500 for examination, and N1,500 for the optional Mock-UTME at private centers) were not indicative of fee increments but rather a strategy to prevent exploitation by unscrupulous center owners.
Stressing the Board’s commitment to fair and affordable services, Benjamin reiterated JAMB’s resistance to drastic fee increases by its partnering and privately-owned centers, citing the prevailing economic situation. He emphasized that JAMB’s services were not profit-driven but aimed at ensuring accessibility and fairness for all candidates.
“In clear terms, the 2024 UTME/DE e-PIN remains N3,500,” Benjamin affirmed, specifying the breakdown of fees to be remitted to CBT centers.
