Operatives of the State Security Services stormed the Abuja home of a former governor of Sokoto state, Attahiru Bafarawa, on Thursday, November 19.

The security operatives were said to have stormed the former governor’s residence situated at the Usuma Street at about 7 am on Thursday.

The source said the SSS operatives repeatedly tried to gain entrance to Bafarawa’s home despite been told that the former governor was away on a trip abroad.

The source alleged that the raid on the former governor’s house could be linked to the problems with the law faced by Sambo Dasuki, a retired Nigerian Army Colonel and former National Security Adviser.

The source said: “You know Bafarawa is a close associate of Dasuki and he has been going to court with him.”

A security operative who pleaded anonymity also confirmed the incident, saying: “Of course you know I’m not authorized to speak but it has to do with the arms deal.”

Mr. Bafarawa, who left Nigeria for Saudi Arabia two weeks ago, is currently in the United States on vacation. Bafarawa and 15 others, mostly his aides, have been facing trial since they left office in 2007 for alleged misappropriation of public funds totalling N15 billion.

The former governor, who is a political associate of the embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, had accompanied the former NSA to court to answer charges of unlawful possession of firearms and alleged retention of funds.
