The government of Kaduna state has begun the screening of over 22,000 new teachers ahead of their deployment to public primary schools in the state.

Their screening followed the sacking of more than 21,000 teachers who were said to have failed a competency test in June.

It was gathered that the exercise is going well across the three zones in the state.

According to the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), the move is part of the government’s effort to equip all schools with competent and qualified teachers in a bid to provide quality education and learning to pupils across the state.

But the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have kicked against the reform, which the government vowed to carry out.
