The Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kaduna Electric) has terminated the employment of 900 staff members, notifying them of the decision through letters dated January 31, 2025.

The company assured affected employees that their net benefits would be credited to their accounts, with pension contributions to follow “in due course.”

The termination letters, signed by Abubakar Mohammed, the company’s Deputy Managing Director, directed the laid-off employees to return all company property, including work tools and staff identification cards, to the human resources department immediately.

The decision to downsize coincided with the Monthly Performance Review meeting, which was chaired by the company’s Managing Director and CEO, Dr. Umar Abubakar Hashidu, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Alhaji Aminu Abubakar Suleiman.

Ibrahim Musa Umar, a board member and Chairman of the HR Committee, was also present at the meeting.

According to Kaduna Electric, affected employees will receive their net benefits and accrued pensions as outlined in the termination letters.

“We refer to your offer of employment and write to inform you that your services will no longer be required by the company, effective January 31, 2025,“ the statement read.

“This decision was not made lightly and reflects our commitment to adapting our operations to meet current challenges. Please find below the summary of your benefits and outstanding obligations.

“Details of Benefits/Obligations, 13th Month Pay (2024): Credit N49,448.11.

“9 Months Basic Salary: Credit N445,033.07.

“Total Net Benefit: N494,481.18.”

The company noted an outstanding pension liability of ₦1,225,164.63, bringing the total benefit to ₦1,719,645.83.

“Kindly note that the sum of ₦494,481.19 will be credited to your account accordingly. Your accrued pension will be paid to your retirement savings account with your Pension Fund Administrator (PFA) in due course,” the statement added.

“Upon receipt of this letter, you are expected to return all company property including work tools and your staff identification card to the Human Resources Department without delay.

“We appreciate your contributions to Kaduna Electric and wish you success in your future endeavors.”
