The Kaduna State government has announced the release of N114 million for the payment of NECO and NABTEB examination fees for 9, 639 and 1,107 students, respectively.

The state’s commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Shehu Usman Adamu, disclosed this yesterday while briefing education correspondents on activities of the ministry in the first quarter of 2016.

The commissioner further disclosed that 448,000 uniforms had been distributed to students during the period under review under the state’s free uniform programme for public schools.

On furniture, the commissioner said that so far, 176,376 units of furniture had been distributed to secondary schools and 260,000 to primary schools.

“The ministry has equally trained 490 principals of secondary schools on HIV/AIDS control.

We have also trained teachers from 147 public schools on the implementation of family life and control of HIV/AIDS,’’ he said.

Hon. Adamu said during the period the ministry held meeting with zonal directors of the ministry on the development of sports in schools.

“God’s willing, sport activities will kick off in schools toward the end of third term this year as all plans have been concluded,’’ he added.

He lauded Gov. Nasir El-Rufai for his commitment and timely release of various intervention funds to strengthen the education sector for better performance.

“I particularly commended the governor for timely release of fund to equip Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital, which is now accredited and upgraded to a teaching hospital for Kaduna State University (KASU).

The recent accreditation by the National Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria will now enable KASU graduate its medical students who are stuck in 300 level,’’ the commissioner said.
