Kaduna Governor Uba Sani Reshuffles Cabinet, Sacks Pioneer Commissioner for Internal Security

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has carried out a major cabinet reshuffle, removing Samuel Aruwan, the pioneer Commissioner for Internal Security.

The announcement was made in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Musa, on Saturday.

Aruwan, who was appointed in 2019 by the immediate past governor, Nasir El-Rufai, was the first to head the Ministry of Internal Security when it was established. Prior to this role, he served as El-Rufai’s Senior Special Assistant on Media from 2015 to 2019.

The reshuffle comes amidst an ongoing case involving Aruwan. In October, the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) directed the Kaduna State government to suspend him and three others over allegations of breach of trust. On November 8, Aruwan’s trial commenced, involving six charges of alleged false asset declaration, including failure to disclose accounts with certain Nigerian banks before his deployment to the ministry.

In Aruwan’s place, Governor Sani appointed James Atung Kanyip as the new Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs.

Additional appointments in the reshuffle include:

  • James Atung Kanyip as Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs
  • Ibrahim Mohammed Tanko as Commissioner for Finance
  • Barde Yunana Markus as Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs
  • Farida Abubakar Ahmed as Executive Director (Radio), Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC)
  • Vitus Azuka Ewuzie as Senior Special Assistant, Legal Matters
  • Francis Damina as Senior Special Assistant, Research and Documentation
  • Victor Mathew Bobai as Senior Special Assistant, Public Affairs
  • Abdulmutallib Isah as Senior Special Assistant, Special Duties
