KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Censorship Board has handed a strict one-year suspension to prominent Kannywood actors Amina Uba Hassan and Adam Garba, citing their involvement in a viral video deemed contrary to the cultural and moral fabric of the state.
Okay News reports that the regulatory agency announced the disciplinary action on Sunday, May 17, 2026, following intense public backlash and widespread criticism across social media platforms over the controversial footage.
In an official statement released by the board’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, the government made it clear that both entertainers are completely barred from participating in any film production, marketing, or promotional activities within Kano State for the duration of the twelve-month penalty. “The board has the legal authority to suspend any Kannywood practitioner from operating in Kano, and violation of this directive could attract severe penalties under the law,” the statement warned.
The Executive Chairman of the board, Abba El-Mustapha, a veteran industry practitioner himself, urged Kannywood stakeholders to safeguard the integrity of the Hausa film industry. He explicitly cautioned producers, directors, and guild heads against violating the order, stating that any attempt to secretly cast or feature the suspended actors in ongoing productions would be met with aggressive legal sanctions and a potential shutdown of those projects.
