Kano Governor Abba Yusuf to Challenge Appeal Court Verdict at Supreme Court

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has announced his decision to take the legal battle over the Kano State governorship election to the Supreme Court.

This comes in response to the recent judgment by the Court of Appeal, which affirmed the decision of the Kano State governorship election petition tribunal to sack Yusuf.

Speaking to the people of Kano on Saturday, Governor Abba Yusuf expressed his dissatisfaction with the judgments from the tribunal and the Court of Appeal, labeling them as a “miscarriage of justice.”

Governor Yusuf assured the people of Kano that, based on the consensus of stakeholders, he has instructed his legal team to initiate the process of appealing the judgment at the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

He remains optimistic that the Supreme Court will, in due course, set aside the judgments of the lower courts and reinstate the mandate given to him by the people of Kano State.

“I want to inform the good people of Kano and indeed well-meaning Nigerians that based on the consensus of our stakeholders, we have instructed our lawyers to commence the process of appealing this judgment at the Supreme Court of Nigeria,” he stated.

Yusuf added, “We are optimistic that the Supreme Court will, by the grace of Allahu SWT, set aside these miscarriages of justice by the tribunal and the appeal Courts, and reaffirm our mandate given by the good people of Kano State.”

Despite the legal challenges, Governor Yusuf encouraged residents to continue their daily legitimate businesses, assuring them that security measures have been implemented to protect lives and properties in the state.

He emphasized that the “temporary setback” will not deter his administration from continuing with the “laudable projects” aimed at the development of Kano State.
