Kano Gov’t Rejects Police Ban on Durbar, Accuses Police of Disobeying Governor’s Instructions

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The Kano State Government has expressed concern over the Police command’s disobedience of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s instructions, particularly the ban on Eid-el-Kabir festivities in the state.

The Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Isah Dederi, questioned who was usurping the authority of the Commander-in-Chief and pushing the State Commissioner of Police to disobey the Governor’s instructions.

Dederi stated that the Police Commissioner’s actions were unconstitutional and usurped the Governor’s authority as Chief Security Officer. He emphasized that the Governor was not informed of the ban and only learned about it through social media. The government is considering appealing a Federal High Court judgement that upheld the fundamental rights of the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.

The government argues that Ado Bayero’s rights were not infringed upon and that he was not forced into house arrest, but rather stayed in Gidan Nassarawa voluntarily with security guards.
