Kogi Gov’t Mourns Killing of Two Varsity Students

The Kogi State Government has condemned the murder of two students of the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, by their abductors.

Okay.ng reports that the students were killed while negotiations for their release were ongoing, according to the state government.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Fatimah Momoh, described the killing as “tragic and unwarranted” during the Children’s Day celebration held at Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja. The event was attended by parents and children.

The government reiterated its commitment to ensuring those responsible for the killings are apprehended and brought to justice. Out of the 23 abducted students, 21 were rescued alive, while two were killed by their abductors.

The Commissioner led a one-minute silence for the deceased students and called for improved access to quality education for all children. She emphasized the importance of quality education and strong values in helping children reach their potential.

The Kogi State Government has pledged to continue providing free education from primary to secondary school, covering exam fees, and distributing bursaries to students in tertiary institutions. The government has also reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all children attend school.
