Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq has strongly condemned an attack on women protesters near the under-construction Government House gate, describing the incident as unacceptable and contrary to democratic principles.

The governor said peaceful protest is a fundamental right and insisted that no citizen should be assaulted for expressing their views.

In a statement made available to Okay News on Monday, AbdulRasaq distanced his administration from the attack, stressing that it does not reflect the values of his government.

He reaffirmed his commitment to decency, respect for democracy, liberty, and order, noting that these principles have guided his administration over the past six years.

The governor disclosed that he has directed the police to identify and prosecute those responsible for the attack. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen security in the state, including the recent passing out of armed forest guards tasked with combating banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism, while calling on residents to support the government’s security campaign.
